The Member representing Obokun/Oriade Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Wole Oke, has commended the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, and the Nigeria Police Force for their swift response in investigating the alleged killings of innocent citizens in Akinlalu, Ife North Local Government Area of Osun State.
The Chairman of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs, described the police intervention as “a commendable demonstration of responsibility, professionalism, and commitment to justice.”
Reports from Akinlalu indicate that on October 1, 2025, operatives of the Amotekun Corps allegedly invaded the community, resulting in the deaths of no fewer than ten residents and leaving several others injured.
In reaction to public outrage, the Police reportedly sealed the Amotekun operational bases in Osogbo and Ile-Ife and arrested about twenty operatives for questioning.
Hon. Oke said the arrests represent a crucial step toward accountability and justice within Nigeria’s security system. However, he urged the Inspector-General of Police not to relent until everyone involved in the incident, regardless of status, is brought to justice.
“I salute the courage and professionalism of the Nigeria Police Force under the leadership of IGP Kayode Egbetokun for responding swiftly to this tragic incident. However, I call for a thorough, transparent, and far-reaching investigation to ensure that justice is not only done but is seen to be done, thereby restoring public confidence in our internal security system,” he stated.
The lawmaker stressed that no society can prosper when citizens live in fear of those meant to protect them, insisting that the sanctity of human life must remain sacred.
“The people of Osun State, particularly the grieving families in Akinlalu, deserve justice. We must restore confidence in law enforcement by ensuring that rogue elements within any security formation are identified, isolated, and punished in accordance with the law,” Oke added.
Hon. Oke who called for calm among residents, assured everyone that the House of Representatives will continue to monitor developments closely to ensure the matter receives due legislative attention and oversight.
“Our democracy is strengthened when the rule of law prevails, and when every citizen, irrespective of social or political affiliation, is treated equally before the law,” he concluded.
