How Lions Clubs International Delivered Free Eye Care Outreach to Oluponna Community

Residents of Oluponna Community in Ayedire South Local Council Development Area in Osun State, have praised Lions Clubs International for bringing free eye care services to their community

Some of the beneficiaries of the outreach who spoke with journalists expressed gratitude for the comprehensive eye care services provided, describing the initiative as timely, impactful, and a major relief to many of them who had limited access to proper eye treatment.

According to them, the intervention not only addressed their immediate eye health needs but also renewed their hope for better healthcare access in the community.

Some beneficiaries shared personal stories of how untreated eye conditions had affected their daily lives and expressed joy at receiving free consultations, treatments, and corrective lenses.

They appealed to other organizations and well spirited individuals to replicate similar initiatives to improve overall healthcare delivery in rural areas

Speaking at the event, the Outreach Officer, Lion Olufunke Odesanmi, explained that the outreach targeted individuals across all age groups suffering from various eye conditions, including refractive errors, conjunctivitis, glaucoma, cataracts, pterygium, and age-related macular degeneration, among others.

Lion Odesanmi emphasized the importance of routine eye examinations, encouraging the general public to undergo comprehensive eye checks at least once a year.

According to her, the Lions Eye Centre, located at the State Specialist Hospital in Osogbo, is fully equipped to deliver thorough eye examinations, diagnosis, and treatment.

She further stressed that all Lions Club outreach programs, including the Oluponna initiative, are offered free of charge as part of the organization’s unwavering mission to serve humanity and improve quality of life, especially in underserved communities.
