President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reaffirmed his commitment to rebuilding Nigeria, acknowledging the hardships citizens face while assuring them that his administration’s economic reforms are paving the way for a brighter future.

A Statement by his spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga said the President gave the pledge while speaking on Friday in Abuja during a meeting with the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria (CBCN).

President Tinubu stressed that the removal of fuel subsidies was a tough but necessary decision to prevent Nigeria from going bankrupt.

He emphasized that poverty has no religious boundaries and called for collective efforts to combat it.”Yes, removing the fuel subsidy was hard, tough for me, but it’s a hard choice that Nigeria must face. We are not going to bankrupt our country,” Tinubu stated.

The President commended the Catholic Church’s contributions to education and healthcare, highlighting his administration’s creation of NELFUND to ensure students, particularly those in public institutions, don’t drop out due to financial struggles.

He expressed optimism about the economy, pointing to increased investments, lower commodity prices, and a productive agricultural sector as signs of recovery.

“There is hope; people are coming in to invest. They are saying good things about Nigeria. I am very proud of that. What seems to be a very difficult beginning is now showing us hope. And we are not half-time yet,” Tinubu said, thanking religious leaders for their prayers.

Most Reverend Lucius Iwejuru Ugorji, Archbishop of Owerri and CBCN President who led the delegation congratulated President Tinubu on his electoral victory and praised his administration’s economic policies, noting that the Holy Father, Pope Francis, had declared this year as the Jubilee Year of Hope — a theme the CBCN embraced.

The Bishops acknowledged the hardships caused by the fuel subsidy removal but expressed hope that the tax reforms would ultimately foster the nation’s economic growth and serve the common good.
