Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, has revealed that over 42,000 pupils and students in public primary and secondary schools have received free corrective eyeglasses to support their education and personal development.

Governor Adeleke made this announcement in Osogbo, the state capital, during a symbolic presentation of eyeglasses and essential medications to beneficiaries.

The event also featured the distribution of advanced medical equipment to Osun Health Insurance Scheme (OHIS) accredited hospitals.

He explained that out of 345,000 pupils and students screened for various eye problems, more than 42,000 with visual impairments received corrective glasses, medications, and, in severe cases, surgical interventions.

“This initiative started with public schools as a pilot phase,” the governor stated, “but we will soon extend this to private schools to ensure no child is left behind.

“In addition to the eye care program, Governor Adeleke unveiled multi-million naira worth of medical equipment procured through the Osun Health Insurance Agency (OSHIA).

He emphasized that the investment aims to improve healthcare services across accredited government hospitals under the OHIS program.

“Our administration remains committed to revitalizing the health sector,” Governor Adeleke said.

“We have approved training allowances for resident doctors, implemented full COMMESS and CONHESS salary structures for health workers, and renovated 200 of the 332 focal Primary Health Centres, with the rest soon to follow.”

The governor further announced that over 25,000 pensioners and 10,000 persons living with disabilities (PWDs) have been enrolled in the Osun Health Insurance Scheme at no cost.

He highlighted the distribution of assistive devices like motorized wheelchairs, crutches, hearing aids, talking watches, and ultraviolet creams to improve the quality of life for people with disabilities.

Governor Adeleke commended stakeholders, including OSHIA and the State Ministry of Education, for their collaboration in ensuring the program’s success.
