Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has emphasized the critical need for economic federalism and devolution of powers, stating that addressing the economic challenges of the nation, such as unemployment and hyperinflation, requires a shift from centralization to greater state autonomy.
Speaking at the convocation ceremony of Adeleke University, Ede, the Governor advocated for moving several items from the exclusive legislative list to the concurrent list to enable state governments to better manage these responsibilities.
Governor Adeleke underscored the importance of maintaining national unity and stability while resolving economic issues.
He reiterated support for President Bola Tinubu and emphasized the collective efforts required from all levels of government to tackle current crises.
He congratulated the graduands, noting that they are graduating at a turbulent economic period in the life of the nation.
He encouraged them to view the crisis as an opportunity, urging them to be innovative and enterprising.
The Governor highlighted that the current situation presents multiple options for those with an entrepreneurial mindset.
In his remarks, Governor Adeleke praised his brother, Dr. Adedeji Adeleke, the Pro-Chancellor of Adeleke University, for his significant contributions to education philanthropy.
He noted that 70 percent of the university’s students benefit from scholarships, reflecting Dr. Adeleke’s commitment to supporting indigent students and resisting the commercialization of education.
The Governor commended Dr. Adeleke for naming the institution after the entire Adeleke family, demonstrating his commitment to family unity and collective prosperity.
Governor Adeleke reminisced about late family members who were instrumental in founding the university, including their late mother, Mrs. Esther Adeleke, Senator Ayoola Adeleke, and Dr. Imade Adeleke.
He extended his congratulations to Dr. Adedeji Adeleke, the university’s management, staff, and students, acknowledging the institution’s significant growth and achievements.
