We will invest in Nigeria’s gas and minerals: Scholz
President Bola Tinubu has declared that his government is all out to change the narrative about Nigeria having a weak and crawling economy by bringing about transformation to governance.
The President made the assertion on Sunday evening during bilateral talks with German Chancellor, Olaf Scholz, and his entourage at the State House, Abuja.
According to him, “Nigeria is still crawling, but we are determined to change the narrative and bring about a transformative government in the country”.
He also called for an improved cooperation in security, natural resources, education, democracy among others, with the government of Germany.
President Tinubu, who said the affirmation of his election by the Supreme Court last Thursday, had removed distractions from his focus on moving the country forward, also canvassed for more cooperation in multiple areas with the German government.
Responding, the German Chancellor, Scholz, highlighted the need for further collaboration in infrastructure, particularly in electricity and energy.
“There is a willingness to invest, especially in critical minerals,” Scholz told reporters at a joint briefing with President Bola Tinubu in the capital Abuja.
On gas, he welcomed Nigeria’s efforts to expand its LNG capacity.
“If we are successful, if there is a better chance of exporting the produced gas … it is then the question for German companies to do their private business,” said Scholz.
He also thanked President Tinubu for his role in ECOWAS and called for collaboration in ensuring peace and stability in Africa and the world at large.
