The National Agency for Food and Drugs Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has raised an alarm over counterfeit Cowbell “Our Milk” 12g sachets circulating in Nigeria.
According to the agency, Promasidor Nigeria Ltd., the authorised manufacturer, reported that the fake product closely mimics the genuine packaging but was last legitimately used in September 2023.
NAFDAC explained that the counterfeit sachets use old artwork, ink printing instead of laser, incorrect coding placement, and poorly sealed packaging.
Unlike the creamy original, the fake content does not resemble milk.
The agency warned that consuming counterfeit milk could cause food poisoning, allergic reactions, organ damage, or death, especially among children, pregnant women, and the elderly.
It directed its zonal directors to mop up the fake products and urged consumers, retailers, and distributors to remain vigilant, purchase only from authorised sources, and report suspicious products to NAFDAC.
Reports can be made via NAFDAC offices, the toll-free line 0800-162-3322, or emails: sf.alert@nafdac.gov.ng and pharmacovigilance@nafdac.gov.ng.
