President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has urged Nigerians living abroad to actively contribute their expertise and resources towards the nation’s development, stressing that the country is experiencing a positive turnaround under his administration.

The President made the appeal on Thursday during an interactive session with members of the Nigerian community in Japan at the Kahala Hotel and Resort, Yokohama, on the sidelines of the ongoing Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD9).

Addressing the gathering of professionals, entrepreneurs, and students, President Tinubu said Nigeria needs the collective efforts of citizens at home and in the diaspora to achieve sustainable progress.

A statement by his Spokesperson Bayo Onanuga quoted the president as saying “I am happy to report that many of our people are returning home. Yes, for economic reasons, some might decide to stay away, but your contribution is very much needed. If you stay away, who will build it?” the President asked.

He reassured the community that his government has made significant reforms aimed at stabilising the economy, attracting investments, expanding the stock market, and improving critical services such as passport issuance and healthcare delivery.

According to him, his administration’s reforms are already reversing the trend of medical tourism through investment in healthcare infrastructure while also creating opportunities for investment and job creation.

Highlighting the importance of collective responsibility, Tinubu reminded the diaspora that true citizenship is demonstrated not only by holding a Nigerian passport but also by showing commitment and character in advancing national progress.

“The strength of our country lies in our unity and shared responsibility. Negative portrayals of Nigeria do little to help. We must project our nation positively wherever we are,” he said.
