Former Governor of Jigawa State, Sule Lamido, has said that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu was never a true supporter of the June 12, 1993 struggle, contrary to popular belief.
Speaking during an interview with Arise News, Lamido alleged that Tinubu supported former military president, General Ibrahim Babangida, during the annulment of the June 12 election, which was widely believed to have been won by Chief M.K.O. Abiola.
He claimed that Tinubu’s mother, Hajiya Abibatu Mogaji, was among those who mobilised women in Lagos to support Babangida at the time.
According to Lamido, Tinubu only joined the June 12 movement after Babangida left office.
Lamido said his intention was not to embarrass Tinubu but to state the facts of history.
He accused Tinubu of trying to rewrite events to paint himself as a major figure in Nigeria’s pro-democracy struggle.
He also described Tinubu’s politics as self-centered, saying the president is more focused on people who will do his bidding rather than true national interest.
He insisted that Tinubu’s political decisions are based on loyalty to him personally, not ethnicity or ideology.
