Osun Assembly Holds Public Hearing on Communal Crisis Management and Peacebuilding Bill

The Osun State House of Assembly on Tuesday held a public hearing on the Osun State Communal Crisis Management and Peacebuilding Bill, 2025.

The session, which was more than just a legislative formality, became a powerful call for proactive leadership in addressing communal conflicts in the state.

The bill, sponsored by Honourable Adewumi Adeyemi, Member representing Obokun State Constituency, seeks to establish a structured approach to managing and resolving communal crises.

In a post shared on X after the hearing, Honourable Adeyemi emphasized that communal peace should not be left to chance but should be strengthened through law and leadership.

The hearing featured contributions from various community leaders, experts, and lawmakers who discussed ways to address tensions that often lead to communal violence.

Honourable Adeyemi expressed his confidence that the bill would result in a robust law that reflects the hopes and aspirations of the people of Osun State.

The lawmaker also expressed gratitude to the Speaker of the House, Rt. Honourable Adewale Egbedun, the Deputy Speaker, Rt. Honourable Akinyode Abidemi Oyewusi and other members of the Assembly for their support, along with the staff and invited guests who participated in the hearing.

In his post-hearing statement, Irekandu referred to the need for peace in light of recent communal clashes that have rocked parts of the state.

It would be recalled that residents of Ifon, the headquarters of Orolu Local Government, and Ilobu, the headquarters of Irepodun Local Government, as well as Ido-Ajegunle and Esa-Oke in Obokun Local Government Area have experienced violent disputes in recent times .

The clashes have led to loss of life and property.

The bill is expected to lay the foundation for long-term peacebuilding efforts across the state, ensuring a more coordinated response to communal tensions in the future.
