
The 2025 May Day celebration in Osogbo took a dramatic political turn as workers across Osun State gave a loud and united endorsement for Governor Ademola Adeleke’s second term in office.
The event, held at the state capital, saw hundreds of jubilant workers chanting slogans such as “No vacancy till 2030,” signaling strong support for the governor’s re-election bid.
Leaders of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Arapaja, and the Trade Union Congress (TUC), Comrade Bimbo Fasasi, jointly declared their unions’ endorsement of Governor Adeleke, citing extensive consultations and his administration’s “unmatched dedication” to workers’ welfare.

Among the achievements listed by the labour leaders were the prompt and full payment of salaries, settlement of gratuities and pension arrears, payment of cooperative deductions, and implementation of the new national minimum wage of seventy five thousand naira .
They also commended the state’s provision of free health insurance for pensioners and consistent promotion exercises for civil servants.
In a major announcement during the rally, Governor Adeleke revealed the approval of over ₦4.2 billion for bond payments to retirees under the contributory pension scheme.
The fund covers both state and local government retirees:
₦2.17 billion for state workers, including those in civil service, parastatals, secondary schools, tertiary institutions, and UNIOSUN Teaching Hospital.
₦2.09 billion for local government and primary school retirees.
“Our administration has never defaulted on minimum wage payments. We’ve cleared inherited debts, including promotion arrears and half-salaries. We are building a resilient state economy that works for the people,” Adeleke said.
He also announced that April 2025 salaries had been fully paid, and the 2025 promotion exercise for eligible public servants had commenced.
The governor stressed his administration’s non-borrowing approach and revealed a 40% reduction in the state’s debt profile.
Governor Adeleke reaffirmed that workers’ welfare remains the cornerstone of his governance, promising continued transparency, economic empowerment, and inclusiveness.
