The Osun State Government has successfully secured its shareholding in the Segilola Mining Company following a resolution of its long-standing dispute with Thor Explorations Limited.
A Statement by the Spokesperson to Governor Ademola Adeleke, Mallam Olawale Rasheed said the agreement was reached during a conflict resolution meeting held in Abuja, facilitated by the Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dele Alake.
The meeting, which involved Governor Ademola Adeleke and the management of Thor Explorations, addressed key issues raised by the Osun State Government.
Among the issues resolved were Osun’s shareholding in the mining company, tax obligations, environmental degradation, and disputes over mining fields.
Governor Adeleke praised the intervention by the Federal Government, commending both President Bola Tinubu and Mr Alake for their efforts in reforming the mining sector.
He noted that Osun State’s own mining reforms were inspired by the ongoing federal initiatives.
“I must commend Mr. President for the ongoing reforms of the nation’s mining sector. We took hints from the presidential reform initiatives to launch our own state-level reforms, and I’m glad to say this is one of the fruits of that effort,” Governor Adeleke stated.
The Governor emphasized that Osun remains committed to fostering positive relationships with investors, assuring that the state is open for business across various sectors.
In response, Mr Alake reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to ensuring peaceful cooperation between states and investors, highlighting the importance of such partnerships in attracting sustainable foreign investment.
Following a closed-door session, both parties agreed to data sharing on tax claims, environmental restoration efforts, and disputes over mining fields.
The meeting’s key moment came when Governor Adeleke was officially presented with Osun State’s shareholding certificate in the Segilola Mining Company
