The Omoluabi Progressives, a political group led by former Osun State Governor and ex-Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, has formally announced its departure from the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The decision was revealed during the group’s monthly meeting held in Ilesa, where stakeholders from all 332 wards in the state voted unanimously to leave the party.
In a statement signed by the group’s Organising and Publicity Secretary, Oluwaseun Abosede, the decision was attributed to grievances over the ostracism, suspension, and expulsion of members without fair hearing.
The group also cited dissatisfaction with the APC’s handling of internal crises, which they believe contributed to the party’s poor performance in recent elections.
Addressing the group, Aregbesola commended members for their unwavering dedication to the principles of integrity and good governance.
He described the move as a bold step towards ensuring responsible leadership in Osun State.
“Our mission is to raise the level of prosperity in our dear state through responsible leadership. The path we have chosen is smooth, highly reassuring, and full of good tides that will propel Osun to greatness,” Aregbesola said.
The group hinted at plans to align with another political platform ahead of the 2026 governorship election, emphasizing inclusivity and readiness to collaborate with like-minded individuals.
Aregbesola expressed confidence in the group’s strength and political acumen to drive Osun’s development and urged members to remain steadfast as they reposition for the future.
