Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has criticized his detractors, accusing them of being jealous and envious of his administration’s stellar performance over the past 23 months.
Speaking in Lagos after delivering a mini-lecture at the 7th memorial anniversary of Cherubim and Seraphim Church founder, St. Moses Orimolade, Adeleke emphasized that his commitment to good governance and serving the public interest has left the opposition bitter and confused.
A statement by his spokesperson, Mallam Olawale Rasheed, quoted the governor as saying that the opposition, which previously failed in governing the state, is now upset by his administration’s successes in sectors like infrastructure, health, digital economy, agriculture, commerce, climate change, education, sports, and workers’ welfare.
“We are faithful to the people and our governance agenda, hence our delivery across sectors. We got so much done by God and the people,” Adeleke said.
He expressed empathy for his critics, acknowledging that envy and bitterness are human nature when one succeeds where others have failed. However, he urged them to prioritize public interest over personal grievances.
Adeleke also denounced the opposition’s use of fake news, personal attacks, and criticism of his religious practices, adding that they fail to understand how his administration has achieved so much in such a short time.
During his lecture, Adeleke called on religious institutions to speak truth to power and advocate for free and fair elections, respect for human dignity, and adherence to the rule of law.
He urged clerics to oppose governance failures like autocracy, corruption, and suppression of opposition, noting that only divinely guided leaders can deliver good governance and restore public faith in politics.
