The Oyo State Government has condemned Saturday’s intrusion into the State Secretariat in Ibadan by self-proclaimed Yoruba Nation agitators, labeling it an act of terrorism.

Dotun Oyelade, the state’s Commissioner for Information, expressed this sentiment, stressing that there are more constructive ways to advocate than resorting to violence. Witnesses reported individuals in military attire suspected to be Yoruba Nation supporters stationed around the area, causing panic among residents and commuters.

Businesses and locals in Bodija, Ikolaba, and Awolowo promptly closed up shop or retreated upon hearing of the incident.

The Commissioner warned that those behind the invasion would face serious consequences, particularly denouncing attempts to forcibly seize legislative chambers with weapons.

He commended the conduct of Prof Banji Akintoye, a prominent Yoruba nation advocate, as emblematic of Yoruba wisdom and civility.
Despite the disturbance, Ibadan has returned to normalcy, with residents resuming their daily routines.
